Improved System Architecture for Safety-relevant Systems Using Dynamic Distribution and State Buffering

Drive-by-wire systems are gaining ground in the automotive industry and approaching maturity. In this paper the state of the art is presented, which is a static Duo Duplex system and focus on two crucial components, the inputmanagement and the output-management. Additionally a novel architecture based on fail silent units which uses dynamic distribution of functions within the system is proposed. In order to eliminate the transitional phase in controller functions, a fault-tolerant State Server is introduced, which stores the states of all safetyrelevant functions. Copyright c ©2005 IFAC
